Riders from sixteen countries, representing teams from nine nations and riding bikes from five manufacturers, will race at seven circuits in six countries over the course of the 2006 FIM World Endurance Championship. Twenty four teams have signed up for "permanent status" and will compete in the full championship. These teams represent nine different nations; Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland. They will campaign motorcycles from five manufacturers - Honda, Kawasaki, MV Agusta, Suzuki, Yamaha - and race on seven circuits in six countries; Belgium, France, Germany, Japan, The Netherlands and Spain. Seventy three riders have already been confirmed, with news of a further six expected shortly. Drawn from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and Switzerland, the riders represent the cream of the world's endurance racing talent. Some teams are composed of riders from a single country, for example X-One Yamaha from Italy, Raffin Motos Kawasaki from France or RMT21 Racing Honda from Germany. Other teams such as Yamaha Maco Moto (with riders from Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic) or Kawasaki Diablo (with riders from Great Britain, Estonia and Australia) are truly cosmopolitan. The first round of the World Endurance Championship will be held at Assen, Netherlands, on Easter Monday, the 17th of April, with the Le Mans 24 Hour race held a week later on the 22nd and 23rd of April.
