Michael Hill and his TABOO Motorsport team were over the moon with the race result they had at a rain soaked Donington Park for the second round of the British 125GP Championship, where they secured their first ever points with a superb eighth place finish. “The weekend has been really, really good we had a few little problems at the Snetterton test and at Brands Hatch which we had to overcome and we are just trying to progress the bike a little bit every race. Pete Banks has done a great job with preparing the bike and Rick one of the guys who is helping me this year has been absolutely brilliant,” enthused Hill “It has all just come together, Friday was great in the dry we were top twenty. Then we kind of lost our way on Saturday with suspension but Pete said try this for the race and get your head down.” The changes that the team made to the bike paid off as Hill was finding it relatively easy to move through the pack despite the bad weather “It took me a couple of laps to get settled in then I just seemed to catch them really easily. I thought on the last lap I could have a go at getting sixth but my hands were just too cold you couldn’t really feel anything,” he explained. Considering he was starting from the eighth row of the grid in treacherous conditions a top ten finish is even more of an achievement. “Four or five people fell off on the sighting lap and people fell off on the warm up lap. I just wanted to keep my head clear for the first couple of laps, my team had said just settle in, when I settled into it I was in the top twenty,” Hill commented “I then caught the other group and caught them quite easily. On the last lap I couldn’t feel my fingers, I looked behind me at the Dunlop Bridge and coming into the Esses I saw that I had a big gap so I thought ‘Eighth will do for me’!” Staying out of trouble wasn’t easy and Hill was lucky to stay on his machine after several big slides “I had a massive slide on the first lap and thought I was going to go over the bars and then Billy Wood went down right in front of me as I challenged for 7th. It was quite difficult so my main focus was to finish and get points. At Brands my target was to get one point every race so to come away with eight is brilliant. I’m made up!” Looking ahead to the next round at the very high speed circuit of Thruxton, Hill said “Thruxton is my favourite circuit; I had one of my best results there last year. I can’t wait for Thruxton I want to be in the points again now that I’ve got a taste for it, so I’m really looking forward to it.” With the impressive points haul, Hill now lies in fourteenth place in the highly competitive 125cc British Championship.
