Chester based NY Racing took their AMES/Daikin, Rock Oil sponsored R1 Yamahas to the “Arctic wastes” of Snetterton for the BSB organised pre-season test session. Although the weather was very cold with a “biting” wind adding to the chill factor, they experienced a successful weekend of testing. Rider, 26 year-old Michael Pensavalle, went out in the first National Superstock session at 9.00am on Saturday, only to find it too cold after about 15 minutes and had to pull in early. The second late morning session went much better, with Michael finishing in 7th place with a time of 1.12.194 after completing 16 laps of the Snetterton circuit, not one of his favourites. The final Saturday session at 15.00 hours saw Michael complete another 16 laps, improving his lap time to 1.11.867, which left him in a lowly 11th place. He commented, “It seemed more like being at the North Pole than Norfolk, but I was pleased with my morning time in the cold conditions, which put me in 7th place. I managed to improve my lap times in the afternoon, but so did everyone else, which dropped me down the order, but at this stage I’m not too disappointed.” Sunday dawned dull and cold, unless you were away from the wind that always sweeps across the Snetterton circuit. The Superstock riders had another 9.00am start. With minor set-up adjustments and a new rear tyre Michael braved the cold again. After having completed only 8 laps he finished the session as 3rd fastest rider with a time of 1.10.281. It may have been about 1 degree warmer for the Mid-day Superstock session as many riders managed to improve their lap times this time out on track. Michael upped his lap times to 1.09.914, which at the end of the session, after 14 laps, left him in 4th place. For the final Superstock session, in the afternoon, Michael went out in his new “gear” which is sponsored by Tran Am, but after 8 laps he called it a day as it was so cold, and not wanting to crash the bike before the first BSB round at Brands Hatch next weekend. His previous time left him as 6th quickest National Superstock rider of the weekend. He said, “Although it was really cold we’ve had a good and successful weekend of testing. The new tyre on Sunday made all the difference to my lap times, and I’m well pleased. I don’t much like Snetterton but I’ve quite enjoyed myself, and now I’m ready to start racing at Brands next weekend.” Team Manager, Neil Young commented, “I and all the team are very happy with Michael’s performance this weekend, everyone worked hard, which helped it all come together on the track. Now we are all looking forward to the start of the racing, and hoping for some good results. I have to say thanks to Michael and all the team for braving the weather this weekend.”
