Honda Racing was forced to bring its three-day test to an early conclusion at Cartagena today (5 March) due to strong winds. The teams however reported good results at the Spanish track despite the adverse weather conditions. HM Plant Honda’s Ryuichi Kiyonari made his first visit to the circuit and spent day one familiarising himself with the track aboard his Honda CBR1000RR and then worked through his test programme on day two. Team mate Karl Harris continued to make significant progress on his Michelin-shod Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade despite the limited track time, as did HM Plant Honda’s John McGuinness aboard his Honda CBR1000RR Superstock bike. Both Red Bull Honda riders, British Superbike rider Jonathan Rea and British Supersport racer Eugene Laverty were out in force and looking at ease on their Dunlop-shod Honda CBR1000RR and CBR600RR machines respectively. Red Bull Honda Team Manager Havier Beltran commented: “It’s very open here. The wind really picked up this morning, which deposited a load of debris and sand on the track. Riders knew they were not going to go any quicker to test a final few parts so we called it a day. We’ve two final tests before the first race at the end of the month and we are happy with all our results so far.” Honda Racing resumes its test schedule on the 15th March at Knockhill, Scotland.
