HM Plant Honda rider John McGuinness finished in a strong sixth place in the second round of the Metzeler National Superstock Championship at Donington Park this afternoon (9 April). The Morecambe-based rider started the shortened 12-lap race from eleventh on the grid and, despite the treacherous track conditions, the 33-year-old racer was pleased with the result and the handling of his HM Plant Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade at the 2.5-mile track. At first McGuinness went back a couple of places but he steadily made his way through the field at the rain soaked Leicestershire venue; running as high as fifth and keeping the door firmly shut on the ensuing riders. McGuinness finally finished in sixth place earning himself a valuable nine points. McGuinness now lies in joint fifth in the ever-popular Superstock Championship. McGuinness: “I’m pleased with that result and it was good to see how well the bike handled in the wet. It was exceptionally slippery out there this afternoon and I could see riders sliding out so it was also good to bring the bike home. I knew I had to be careful, in the end it paid off.” Honda Racing Manger Neil Tuxworth: “We were looking for a top six finish so we are naturally happy with that result.
