Robbie Brown on the Robbie Brown Racing Yamaha moved ahead on the second circulation as the leading five riders broke clear of the field. Looking to be in control of the race, Brown will rue the bad luck that struck on lap 9. With pre-race championship leader, UK1s Luke Jones, absent with a broken collar bone sustained at Knockhill last weekend, the Biddulph Yamaha rider had the opportunity to leapfrog into the lead. However, with constant pressure from Stapleford (Kawasaki) and Venter, Brown lost the front, and a possible championship lead, at Britten’s. Venter forced his way through for the lead by the close of the lap, and with his head down set about extending his lead over the remaining laps to claim his first victory of the season by a margin of almost four seconds. Despite losing out on a podium position in the final drag up Deer Leap from Lodge corner, Johnston claimed fourth behind Luke Stapleford’s Kawasaki and Joshua Day’s Yamaha, and with it a psychological lead of 8 points as the championship heads north of the border to Knockhill for round 7 (8-10 August).
