Race Report by Metzeler
2007 British 125GP champion, Luke Jones, stamped his authority on the National Superstock 600 series with his third win of the season and the championship lead at Snetterton (15 June).
Jones took the holeshot from pole position on the RDL UK1 Racing Yamaha, with AJ Venter (M.A.P Embassy Racing Triumph) and Jimmy Hill on the Team EMCO Yamaha in hot pursuit.
The opening few exchanges saw Hill come under pressure from Lee Johnston’s Trevor Pennell Transport Yamaha and championship leader Robbie Brown, as Luke Jones pulled an unassailable two second gap at the head of the field.
An incident involving Joe Akroyd and Sam Neate at the start of lap 11 at Riches, saw the red flag bring about an abrupt end to proceedings. With results brought back a lap, Luke Jones took the victory and the lead in the title race from Robbie Brown. Just five points now separates a trio of riders in the hunt for the title.
Luke Stapleford (Bournemouth Kawasaki/Hawk), claimed fifth and the David Jeffries Memorial Prize for the highest placed under-16 rider.
The championship receives a five week break before heading to Oulton Park, Cheshire, for round six (18-20 July).
Luke Jones: “I went away from the pack and put my head down, putting in some quick laps to break away. By the mid-point my tyres were beginning to lose grip and the bike was moving a little. I could see the gap coming down from my pit board so I opened it up again. I had a huge smile under my helmet as I was really enjoying the race. It’s great to come away with a win and the championship lead.”
