Northern Ireland’s Lee Johnston recorded his frst victory of the 2008 season to extend his Championship lead at Knockhill (10 August). Joe Burns took the holeshot, with Jimmy Hill, Johnston and Team Haribo Starmix’s Chris Northover all making the early break at the head of the field. Jonston, starting from pole, powered his Trevor Pennell Transport Yamaha into the lead on the drag into turn one at the start of lap 5.The 19 year old commanded the race from the front for the remaining 16 laps, despite constant pressure from messers Hill and Northover. Joe Burns’ challenge petered out in the closing stages, but with a healthy eight seconds of clear tarmac back to Robbie Brown, at least 13 points were secured for the younger brother of BSB MV Agusta rider, Chris Burns. Jimmy Hill, into second on lap 19 looked to be the one to make a serious challenge for the win. Lining up Johnston into the hairpin, Hill attempted a late braking move only to force himself wide allowing Northover through to claim second.A disconsolate Hill held on for third, with Burns and Brown rounding out a Yamaha clean-sweep of the top five placings. Round 8 will take place in two weeks time at Cadwell Park over the August Bank Holiday weekend (23-25 August).
