Race One
Steve Brogan continued his season long domination as the Superstock 1000 class took to the track for the first time since Snetterton for a blistering 15-lap showdown at Oulton Park (19 July).
The Liverpudlian Honda UK Racing rider transformed his fourth pole into his fifth win, holding off the constant pressure from inform rider Jon Kirkham.
The race was not without drama. Brogan looked to be creeping from the line but no jump starts were called. Kirkham briefly stole the lead on lap 2, before the Raceways Yamaha was relegated back to second by Brogan for the remainder of the race.
The pair moved clear with a comfortable two second barrier to third placed Marshall Neill on the Mahon Garden Centre Suzuki. Seeley, Jackson, Coates and Hickman were on the move, soon swallowing up the Suzuki of Neill. Seeley made a brilliant pass to jump two places into third on lap 7 demoting Neill and Jackson in the process.
As the race reached the final period, the battle for podium slots evolved into two four-wheel dices between Brogan and Kirkham for the win, and Seeley and Neill for third. Hickman and Coates succumbed to the pace, dropping off the leading pack but with places secure inside of the top ten.
Drama unfolded on the final corner. Brogan held Kirkham for the win, but Seeley and Neill came together at Lodge, both crashing out of the points leaving Lee Jackson to bring his NCT Racing Yamaha home for sixteen valuable points in a distant third.
Race Two
Jon Kirkham finally dismissed the ‘bridesmaid’ moniker as he raced to an emphatic debut Superstock victory in the final race of an action-packed weekend at Oulton Park (20 July).
Kirkham and Brogan launched into battle as the lights went out, clashing fairings as they jostled for holeshot position into Old Hall, with Kirkham edging the nose of his Raceways Yamaha in front. From here on in, the Derby based rider looked odds-on favourite to add to his Henderson Yamaha R1 Cup victory from earlier in the afternoon.
As Kirkham stretched his lead by over a second with each successive lap, a monumental scrap for the final podium slot unfolded behind. Lee Jackson moved Howie Mainwaring aside for third, and held the position until lap 10 when a rejuvenated Adrian Coates won out on the brakes into Lodge.
Kirkham eventually took the chequered flag for the first time in his Superstock career with 7.5s to spare to Championship leader Steve Brogan. Adrian Coates rounded out the podium with his second visit of the season. Round 8 takes place at Knockhill in Scotland over the weekend of 8-10 August.
