Drama unfolded at the start of the fourth round of the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 race at Donington Park as Jon Kirkham’s Raceways Yamaha was escorted from the grid at the end of the warm up lap. Ben Wilson capitalised from the lights. With an empty grid slot ahead, the Boston based rider took advantage of the empty track to lead the 40-strong field into the first corner. However, his lead was shortlived as first Seeley (Team Rea Estates Racing Yamaha), then Marshall Neill (Marshall Neill Racing Suzuki) slipped past through successive corners. Neill subsequently took the long outside line round Seeley into the final corner to snatch an early lead as the riders headed towards the culmination of lap 2. Steve Brogan put his Honda UK Racing CBR1000RR into the mix, while Jimmy Storrar closed onto the back of Wilson to make it five at the front. Adrian Coates, high on confidence after a double podium in the Henderson Yamaha R1 Cup, tagged onto the heels of the leading group the following lap and looked like he may become the main challenger for the win. An exciting second half to the race unfolded as Brogan took the lead passing both Neill and Seeley on the inside at Melbourne on lap 6. The Liverpudlian rider held a slender lead until lap 9 when Marshall Neill capitalised on a Seeley error to head the pack. Brogan waved his hand signaling rain as the riders crossed the finish line to start lap 10. However, the race continued with Coates forcing his Dyer Crossgills Racing Yamaha under Brogan into McLeans. Brogan instantly fought back, winning the battle of the late brakers on the run into the Foggy Esses, retaking second place. As the riders started lap 11, the falling rain deemed conditions unsafe for riders to continue and the red flag brought about a premature end to proceedings. Marshall Neill did not look too perturbed. Bringing positions back one lap would give the Irishman his first Superstock victory and second in the championship. Adrian Coates finished third claiming his third podium of the day. Steve Brogan maintains his championship lead as the riders take a well earned two weekend break before round five at Snetterton (13-15 June). Steve Brogan, Honda (UK) Racing: “It’s been absolutely awsome out here. I’d like to thank the whole of the Honda team, they’ve just done an awesome job for me today. My Metzeler tyres have been hooking up real good out there and I couldn’t fault the bike. It’s a great start to the season.” National Superstock 1000 - Donington Park Race Result Pos - Rider - Bike - Team - Time 1 - Marshall Neill - Suzuki - Marshall Neill Racing - 16:05.873 2 - Steve Brogan - Honda - Honda UK Racing - 16:06.441 3 - Adrian Coates - Yamaha - Dyer Crossgills Racing - 16:06.517 4 - Alastair Seeley - Yamaha - Team Rea Estates Racing - 16:06.637 5 - Jimmy Storrar - Suzuki - Jimmy Storrar Racing - 16:08.858 6 - Victor Cox - Yamaha - VC Motorsport / STP Motorsport - 16:13.259 7 - Ben Wilson - Yamaha - Ben-Wilson-Racing.com - 16:13.651 8 - Peter Hickman - Yamaha - Ultimate Racing - 16:13.922 9 - Howie Mainwaring - Suzuki - Lenzkes Racing - 16:14.557 10 - Lee Jackson - Yamaha - NCT Racing - 14:39.210 11 - Daniel Hegarty - Yamaha - SPR Racing - 14:39.784 12 - Sam Warren - Yamaha - GR / Ssangyong Racing - 14:47.753 13 - Alex Camier - Kawasaki - Bournemouth Kawasaki / Hawk - 14:47.926 14 - Barry Burrell - Yamaha - SCG Performance - 14:48.270 15 - Craig Beggs - Yamaha - www.CraigBeggsRacing.com - 14:49.918 16 - Kieran Blair - Suzuki - Unique Racing - 14:50.399 17 - Craig Mclelland - Kawasaki - Shirlaw / Window Store - 14:55.410 18 - Kenny Gilbertson - Kawasaki - Astro Racing Kawasaki - 14:55.871 19 - Drew Dorling - Yamaha - Freestyle Xtreme - 14:59.115 20 - Rhys Boyd - Yamaha - Rockforge Racing - 15:00.041 21 - Rob Guiver - Yamaha - RG Racing - 15:00.689 22 - Michael O'Brien - Yamaha - Motomob - 15:01.082 23 - Stu Wilson - Yamaha - Wilhall Yamaha - 15:05.999 24 - James Hurrell - Yamaha - Enanjay Racing - 15:06.271 25 - Phil Bevan - Yamaha - Co-ordit Racing - 15:06.632 26 - Steve Heneghan - Yamaha - Quattro Racing - 15:07.747 27 - Christian Elkin - Kawasaki - Motorcycle Centre Stockport - 15:08.094 28 - Graham English - Yamaha - Tiva Engineering - 15:08.546 29 - Michael Sweeney - Yamaha - Street Sweep Racing - 15:08.847 30 - Bryan Campbell - Suzuki - BCR - 15:10.645 31 - Michael Elliott - Yamaha - M Elliott Racing - 15:23.196 32 - Colin Young - Suzuki - T2 Racing - 15:37.816 33 - Derek Gulbrandsen - Yamaha - Lenzkes Racing - 15:40.892 34 - Mark Van Daalen - Yamaha - Dutch-2-UK Racing - 15:42.272 Not Classified DNC - Gavin Hunt - Suzuki - Martin Bullock Race Team - 2:26.722 DNC - Jon Kirkham - Yamaha - Raceways Yamaha - DNC - Martin Buckles - Kawasaki - JX Kawasaki Championship Points 1 - Steve Brogan - 95 2 - Marshall Neill - 64 3 - John Kirkham - 60 4 - Alistair Seeley - 48 5 - Victor Cox - 30 6 - Lee Jackson - 28 7 - Peter Hickman - 28 8 - Jimmy Storrar - 27 9 - Conor Cummins - 26 10 - Adrian Coates - 25
