John McGuinness declared himself all set and raring to go after this weekend's final shakedown tests for the British Superstock Championship at Snetterton. Despite the bitterly cold conditions, the HM Plant Honda rider completed over 100 laps of the 1.95-mile Norfolk circuit on his CBR1000RR Fireblade over the course of the two days and was more than happy with the progress made. After earlier tests at the Spanish circuits of Guadix and Cartagena, the Morecambe rider concentrated on finding a good race set-up in preparation for next weekend's opening round at Brands Hatch, as well as re-familiarising himself with a circuit he hadn't ridden at since 2003. With temperatures so low, riders had to treat the practice sessions with caution so rather than fast lap times, McGuinness used the track time to totally get to grips with his new machine, making a number of changes along the way in order to feel totally comfortable on the bike. Speaking after the final practice session, John commented: "I'm really pleased with the way the two days have gone and although the weather was far from ideal, I managed to get plenty of laps under my belt and am feeling good for the opening round. It was absolutely freezing out there, with the track temperature only registering about 5 degrees, and the last thing I wanted to do was tip off and get injured so I just concentrated on getting a good feel for the bike. I stayed out on the circuit for all of the sessions and did something in the region of 120 laps and the bike feels ready to race now. The suspension, brakes and tyres are all working well and we've learnt a lot as a team over the two days so I'm feeling quietly confident as we head towards Brands. It's going to be a tough, competitive year but I can't wait to get started and back racing again." The opening round of the British Superstock Championship takes place at Brands Hatch, next Sunday the 26th March.
