Laier Steps Into The Championship With Authority to Win Round Two

 The second round of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship was an eventful one today at Mantova, where the series had never been before. KTM Germany’s Stephanie Laier came back to action with style after she missed round one in Bulgaria due to a damaged ligament in her right shoulder. Laier took a clean sweep in Mantova, winning from Yamaha Van Beers Racing’s Katherine Prumm and Suzuki Inotec’s Larissa Papenmeier. The latter came back to the podium after the last moto crash in Sevlievo, leaving her with a damaged right foot. Livia Lancelot was fourth ahead of Ashley Fiolek. Top five overall: 1. Stephanie Laier (GER, KTM), 50 points; 2. Katherine Prumm (NZL, Yamaha), 44 p.; 3. Larissa Papenmeier (GER, Suzuki), 36 p.; 4. Livia Lancelot (FRA, Kawasaki), 35 p.; 5. Ashley Fiolek (USA, Honda), 34 p. MOTO 1 Fiolek took an early lead with Lancelot and Laier chasing her for the first place; at the fourth lap both the rivals moved past the American, who was then handed one position because Lancelot stalled the bike. Laier found herself alone at the lead and rode solid to take victory from Prumm, who had worked her way up from fourth. Papenmeier and Franke ended respectively third and fourth as both moved past Fiolek in the final lap. Lancelot ended sixth. Top five: 1. Stephanie Laier (GER, KTM), 25:52.655; ; 2. Ashley Fiolek (USA, Honda), +0:44.853 MOTO 2 Laier took a superb victory by pulling away from the rest of the field since the gate dropped; Lancelot was following from second with Prumm chasing her for the runner up spot. The winner of the Bulgarian round made another mistake and let the Kiwi take the eventual second position, to finish the final heat in third. Fiolek and Papenmeier completed the top five. Prumm actually moved up to second ahead of Fiolek and Franke, with the latter crashing in the final moto. KTM Italy handed the Heinz Kinigadner related foundation a cheque coming from the 38 participants to the manufacturer’s National Motocross Trophy, as the fourth round of the series got underway alongside the Grand Prix.
