Race Report by Pirelli Richard Cooper dominated the opening 12-lap KTM Super Duke battle in tricky conditions at Snetterton in Norfolk (14 June), despite the pole-sitter starting the race from the pit lane after a last gasp tyre switch decision on the sighting lap. The change to a wet Pirelli tyre set-up saw Cooper make a blistering start from the lights to be third at the first corner, briefly leading into the Russell chicane at the close of the first lap. A trip across the rumble strip pushed the 24- year old back to second as Ed Smith on the Gear 4 KTM breezed past to the lead. However, the tyre gamble paid off for Cooper as the SJB Racing pilot re-took the lead on the second circulation, opening up a 1.2s gap as the field headed across the line for the third. Championship leader, David Wood also made a gamble, unfortunately to his detriment. Electing for dry tyres, Wood propelled himself backwards eventually clawing his way into sixth at the flag. Cooper stretched his lead with each successive lap, eventually taking his first chequered flag of the season with an embarrassingly comfortable 6.5s cushion behind to new championship leader, Kelvin Reilly. Ed Smith eventually broke clear of a three-bike battle with Peter Hassler (Art of Racing) and Gary Byrne (Racing for GOSH) on lap 9 to claim his first podium of the campaign. The 25 points elevated Cooper four places up into fifth ahead of Sunday’s second 12-lap showdown. Richard Cooper: “I made the gamble to change tyres at the end of the first sighting lap, knowing I would have to start from the back of the grid. However, it paid off handsomely and I was almost embarrassed with how easy I got to the front. I just kept my head down knowing I had the pace to keep Reilly at bay.” KTM Super Duke Battle – Snetterton Race One Result Pos – Rider – Bike - Team - Time 1 - Richard Cooper - KTM - SJB Racing - 15:58.9 2 - Kelvin Reilly - KTM - Inmoto Corse - 16:05.5 3 - Ed Smith - KTM - Gear 4 - 16:13.3 4 - Peter Hasler - KTM - Art Of Racing - 16:17.1 5 - Gary Byrne - KTM - Racing for GOSH - 16:18.0 6 - David Wood - KTM - Art Of Racing - 16:26.2 7 - Francis Williamson - KTM - KTM UK - 16:36.1 8 - Ryan Lowe - KTM - The KTM Centre - 16:38.5 9 - Ryan Harris - KTM - SJB Racing - 16:39.7 10 - Paul Lane - KTM - Inmoto Corse - 16:41.3 11 - Jonathan Pearson - KTM - Superbike Magazine - 17:00.1 12 - Dave Heal - KTM - Littlewood Fencing / Dave Heal R'g - 17:02.1 13 - Andy Denyer - KTM - - 17:03.4 14 - Nick Hobden - KTM - Littlewood Fencing / Dave Heal R'g - 17:05.4 15 - Pat Shaughnessy - KTM - Jim Aim Racing - 17:06.1 16 - Luke Hall - KTM - Moto Developments - 17:07.0 17 - Simon Nash - KTM - Moto Developments - 17:07.3 Not Classified DNF - Colin Mould - KTM - Art Of Racing - 08:53.1 DNF - James Edmeades - KTM - Redline Motorcycles / VSG - 04:15.6 Championship Points after Snetterton race 1 - Kelvin Reilly - 72 2 - David Wood - 66 3 - Dave Heal - 50 4 - Jonathan Pearson - 47 5 - Richard Cooper - 45 6 - James Edmeades - 41 7 - Ed Smith - 37 8 - Ryan Harris - 30 9 - Ryan Lowe - 29 10 - Peter Hasler - 26
