Glamour model and media personality Jodie Marsh officially opened the new multi-million pound pit and paddock complex at Donington Park today, along with the circuit’s Managing Director Brian Pallett. Jodie conducted the official opening ceremony in front of more than 250 people, including members of the national and regional media, local councillors and VIPs from motorsport and commerce. Ms Marsh also enjoyed a high-speed pillion ride around the circuit, the home of the British Motorcycle Grand Prix, with former bike racer Ron Haslam (two times winner of the TT Formula 1 crown). Also present at the opening ceremony were current Bennetts British Superbike Championship contender Leon Haslam (Ron’s son) and former British Superbike Champion Niall Mackenzie. Jodie commented: “I love motorbikes and speed, and Donington Park is famous for both. It was a great honour for me to officially open Donington’s fantastic new pit and paddock complex. “The ride with Ron was great fun! I have jumped out of a plane and been a passenger on a drag car which broke the world record and nothing, or anything else I have ever done before, compares to the day that I have had here at Donington Park on the back of Ron’s bike. “I love motorbikes and am a big motorsports fan. I can’t believe the great job that they have done on the refurbishment at Donington Park - so much so that I am coming back here next weekend for the British Superbike Championships where I’ll see Ron again and will be cheering on his son Leon.” Brian Pallett, Managing Director of Donington Park, said: “It was great to have Jodie conduct the official opening of the new facilities in front of a big crowd. We’re entering a new era at Donington Park with these changes, which represent the biggest investment in the circuit in 20 years. “ The investment of £5 million in track resurfacing and in the redevelopment of the pit and paddock complex has brought Donington Park bang up to date for car and motorcycle racing, as well as improving the facilities on offer for conferences and hospitality. The new pit and paddock complex consists of 38 pit garages, a dozen more than before. A spacious office suite on the first storey will provide an improved working environment for race control, time-keeping, administrative personnel and the media at events, while circuit commentators will be housed on the second storey. In addition, the multi-purpose Paddock Suite has been doubled in size to accommodate the media office for the GAS British Motorcycle Grand Prix and will also serve at other times as a unique venue for conferences, small exhibitions, functions and corporate hospitality.
