Thruxton in Hampshire is the scene for the third round of the Metzeler National Superstock Championship. It is one of the most abrasive tracks in the UK and is renowned for its high speeds and bumpy nature. It is this abusive track that Hudson Kennaugh has “got to grips” with and is really enjoying riding, so much so that he has qualified in sixth position just 0.529secs off pole. To put the level of competition in Superstock into perspective, the top eleven riders are all under one second apart on time, so every little advantage that can be gleaned is helpful. With that in mind Kennaugh, who finished in sixth in first qualifying made some small adjustments before second qualifying as he explains, “We made a change to the gearing for second qualifying and it improved the lap time. It was only a small change but it definitely felt better.” He finished second qualifying fourth due to the improvement in the bike, on combined times he ended up sixth. “I’ve got to say a big thanks to Simon and John/Oz for doing a great job and working hard all weekend,” said Kennaugh “They have done a good job on a very difficult track.” The weather conditions have helped Kennaugh out a great deal and he is pleased with second row, “I’m over the moon considering I’ve never been here before. It has really boosted my confidence. We have some small changes planned for warm up and if they work we will be very well set up for the race,” he said. The abrasive nature of the Thruxton means that tyre wear will be at a maximum, “It will be a tough race because of the high speeds that are involved. It is also all right handers and will wear the rubber away completely on that side of the tyre,” Kennaugh explained, “It really eats up the tyre like no where else I’ve ever been.” The Hurricane wants a good result at Thruxton and is hoping race day goes as well as qualifying has done.
