Hudson Kennaugh produced arguably the ride of the season as took the chequered flag by no less than 20 seconds in the reduced 24-lap Supersport race at Mallory Park (29 June). As the rain started to fall on the sighting lap, the race director kept riders on the grid for 10 minutes and a wet race declared. Mechanics frantically changed tyres, making tough choices between wet and intermediate choices. However, Kennaugh’s second win of the season looked odds-on from the second lap, sliding the Raceways Yamaha YZF-R6 under Glen Richards’ MAP Embassy Triumph into Edwina’s. From there on in, Kennuagh tucked his head in behind his screen, stretching his lead each lap with consummate ease. Steve Brogan dropped his HM Plant Honda CBR600RR out of the race, losing second in the Championship, at Edwina’s on lap 6, as Lowry and Hutchinson looked to close ranks on third placed Steve Plater. Glen Richards was moving backwards by lap 9 as, first, Steve Plater moved the AIM Racing Yamaha up into second, then Lowry and Hutchinson pushed the Australian back a further two places at Shaw’s Hairpin. By this point, Kennaugh was relishing an 11 second lead, leaving the rest of the field to battle it out for second and third. By the time Hudson Kennaugh crossed the finish line, he had lapped riders up to 13th position, finishing over 20 seconds ahead of Steve Plater and Ian Lowry, for his second race win of the season. Glen Richards maintains the Championship lead as the series heads to Oulton Park for the seventh round (18-20 June) Hudson Kennaugh: “I had two near high-sides coming out of the chicane early on, so knew where I could and couldn’t push things. I just went for it from the start and had a bit of luck. Once I got the lead I just put my head down. I have to thank RST leathers for making me look fast and Raceways Yamaha and Pirelli for working so hard for me this weekend.” British Supersport – Mallory Park Race Result Pos – Rider – Bike – Team - Time 1 - Hudson Kennaugh - Yamaha - Raceways Yamaha - 25:04.776 2 - Steve Plater - Yamaha - AIM Racing - 25:24.937 3 - Ian Lowry - Suzuki - Relentless Suzuki by TAS - 25:26.174 4 - Ian Hutchinson - Yamaha - AIM Racing - 25:28.460 5 - Glen Richards - Triumph - MAP Embassy Racing - 25:35.174 6 - James Westmoreland - Honda - Centurion Racing - 25:39.852 7 - BJ Toal - Yamaha - Virgin Media Yamaha - 25:46.622 8 - James Webb - Honda - Padgetts Motorcycles - 25:47.734 9 - Daniel Cooper - Honda - Centurion Racing - 25:56.099 10 - Marty Nutt - Yamaha - Nutt Travel / T+G - 25:57.376 11 - Rob Frost - Triumph - Team Buff - 25:57.401 12 - Joe Dickinson - Yamaha - Trucklinks Yamaha - 26:04.401 13 - Ross Walter - Triumph - Interserve Racing - 26:08.359 14 - Aaron Walker - Honda - TJW Racing - 25:06.463 15 - Steven Neate - Kawasaki - Gearlink Kawasaki - 25:06.805 16 - John McGuinness - Honda - Padgetts Batley Ltd - 25:07.616 17 - Andy Weymouth - Yamaha - Linxcel / Seton Tuning - 25:08.653 18 - Alistair Fagan - Triumph - JHS Racing - 25:21.032 19 - David Hallett - Triumph - TCG Motorsport - 25:22.328 20 - Ben Handley - Honda - AZ1 Racing - 25:31.129 21 - Dean Hipwell - Yamaha - Atherton Godfrey Solicitors - 25:58.293 22 - James Hillier - Kawasaki - JMH Raciing - 25:08.252 23 - Jenny Tinmouth - Honda - JennyTinmouth.com/Hollins M'spor - 25:28.009 Not Classified DNF - Ben Wylie - Yamaha - Wylie & Holland Racing - 15:53.444 DNF - Pete Spalding - Yamaha - Linxcel / Seton Tuning - 13:30.622 DNF - Craig Fitzpatrick - Yamaha - BLDS Couriers - 11:15.660 DNF - Chris Martin - Kawasaki - Gearlink Kawasaki - 11:27.992 DNF - Sam Owens - Honda - Premier Motorsport - 10:01.293 DNF - Paul Young - Triumph - MAP Embassy Racing - 9:32.111 DNF - Steve Brogan - Honda - HM Plant Honda - 5:23.922 DNF - Ronan Quarmby - Yamaha - Raceways Yamaha - 2:24.399 DNF - Conor O'Brien - Honda - Arkwood Honda Championship Points 1 - Glen Richards - 116 2 - Hudson Kennaugh - 96 3 - Ian Lowry - 79 4 - Steve Brogan - 75 5 - J Westmoreland - 51 6 - Chris Martin - 48 7 - Steve Plater - 45 8 - BJ Toal - 40 9 - Ian Hutchinson - 37 10 - Craig Fitzpatrick - 31
