The entire PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse squad enjoyed high placings in the final classification at the official Misano SBK tests, with Chris Walker leading a three rider PSG-1 running flush of competitiveness. Aboard the number 9 Kawasaki ZX-10R Walker set the fifth fastest time of all, with Regis Laconi sixth and Fonsi Nieto seventh. Such was the combined push of the entire team that less than two tenths of a second separated the Kawasaki trio, with Walker just inside the 1.33 barrier, thanks to a 1’33.984. Of even more importance to the team and the riders was the high pace and relatively trouble free performances put in when running race tyres and race specification machine set-ups. Recent bouts of unwelcome chatter were seldom in evidence around the generally tight and twisty Misano circuit, as each rider reported progress in overall performance. Only a dirty track, caused by an oil spill late in the final session, held back most riders’ last chances to set an even better time. CHRIS WALKER: 5th position, Best lap 1m 33.984 “To be honest the cement dust on the track was just off my line, so it wasn’t so bad for me. I surprised myself how much better we went on a qualifier. I am enjoying riding the bike now, but I’ve just got to find a way to put in less effort to get the best out of it, so we can be fast for the whole race distance. When you can push, the bike is capable of a very fast lap time. So we have to work on that aspect of things. We didn’t suffer from chatter here – except on the very wide rear tyre - and I think we have made things a lot better at this test.” REGIS LACONI: 6th position, Best lap 1m 34.085 “We worked through a lot of things, new settings for the front suspension and rear shock, and improved the way they work. So we made a good job. Even better than our one-off times was the fact that on race tyres I could do 1’34.4s, 1’34.7s, 1’34.8s in succession. We worked very well at this test, and it showed in the lap times.” FONSI NIETO: 7th position, Best Lap 1m 34.181 “The test was very good for us, and everything is OK for Valencia, no crashes or problems. Every time we go out on the bike we get better and this is very good for us all. Yesterday and this morning gave us perfect conditions, but I had a problem with my qualifying tyres today. They put out the red flag just as I went out. So it was so difficult to make a better lap time because of the track. But I made a good lap time on a race tyre, and even though I had done four laps on my qualifier, and had a dirty track to ride on, I still made my best time. I think I could have made second or third best time overall without this, but the bike is good and team is perfect, so I am happy.”
