Race Report by Pirelli AIM Yamaha rider, Steve Plater capped off a remarkable six week period with his first domestic victory for five years, as he took first place honours in a reduced 12 lap British Supersport race at Snetterton (15 June). Pole sitter Glen Richards took the holeshot onboard the M.A.P Embassy Triumph to head an eight-wheel breakaway consisting of Plater, Kennuagh and Centurion Racing’s James Westmoreland. With dark clouds looming just shy of Riches, Plater and Richards battled for the lead across the finish line should the inevitable rain shower happen to bring about a conclusion to the race. However, it would not be the weather that would cause a premature climax to the race. As the front runners rounded Riches on the start of lap 13, Midge Smart spectacularly crashed out at Russell Chicane, rider and machine sliding along the Snetterton tarmac. The red flag was deployed and Steve Plater was declared the race victor ahead of Richards and an emotional Westmoreland, scoring his debut Supersport podium. With Steve Brogan languishing down in sixth, Richards extends his championship lead to 30 points as the series moves to Mallory Park for round six in two weeks time (27-29 June). Steve Plater: “Not a bad six weeks for me there. I got a cracking start, the R6 was good off the line and I tucked in behind Glen. I could see the Triumph was strong, especially on the straights. We were all panicking a little with the big black clouds so both me and Glen tried to come over the line in the lead just in case. And for me, the right man won! A great day, and, you know me, think about the prize money!” British Supersport – Snetterton Race Result Pos – Rider – Bike – Team - Time 1 - Steve Plater - Yamaha - AIM Racing - 14:56.070 2 - Glen Richards - Triumph - MAP Embassy Racing - 14:56.262 3 - James Westmoreland - Honda - Centurion Racing - 14:56.478 4 - Hudson Kennaugh - Yamaha - Raceways Yamaha - 14:56.768 5 - Ian Lowry - Suzuki - Relentless Suzuki by TAS - 15:03.796 6 - Steve Brogan - Honda - HM Plant Honda - 15:04.014 7 - Ashley Beech - Yamaha - Colin Appleyard / Macadam R'g - 15:04.320 8 - Chris Martin - Kawasaki - Gearlink Kawasaki - 15:04.623 9 - Rob Frost - Triumph - Team Buff - 15:05.063 10 - Marty Nutt - Yamaha - Nutt Travel / T+G - 15:06.135 11 - BJ Toal - Yamaha - Virgin Media Yamaha - 15:07.175 12 - Andy Weymouth - Yamaha - Linxcel / Seton Tuning - 15:11.350 13 - Sam Owens - Honda - Premier Motorsport - 15:11.820 14 - Craig Fitzpatrick - Yamaha - BLDS Couriers - 15:11.984 15 - Joe Dickinson - Yamaha - Trucklinks Yamaha - 15:12.245 16 - Daniel Cooper - Honda - Centurion Racing - 15:14.294 17 - Steven Neate - Kawasaki - Gearlink Kawasaki - 15:14.482 18 - James Hillier - Kawasaki - JMH Raciing - 14:07.579 19 - John McGuinness - Honda - Padgetts Batley Ltd - 14:10.215 20 - Ben Wylie - Yamaha - Wylie & Holland Racing - 14:13.797 21 - Mark Pollock - Honda - Arkwood / MP Honda - 14:13.988 22 - Aaron Walker - Honda - TJW Racing - 14:14.286 23 - Ross Walter - Triumph - Interserve Racing - 14:15.025 24 - Dean Hipwell - Yamaha - Atherton Godfrey Solicitors - 14:16.203 25 - Jenny Tinmouth - Honda - JennyTinmouth.com/Hollins M'spor - 14:16.836 26 - Craig Sproston - Honda - CS Racing - 14:19.118 27 - James Dye - Triumph - Team Buff - 14:29.495 28 - Conor O'Brien - Honda - Arkwood Honda - 14:30.168 29 - Nick Medd - Yamaha - Virgin Media Yamaha - 14:30.225 30 - Adam Tempest - Triumph - Slippery Sam Racing - 14:30.519 31 - Matt Layt - Honda - - 14:48.300 32 - Ben Taylor - Honda - M&B Motorsport - 14:49.875 Not Classified DNF - Midge Smart - Yamaha - Wylie & Holland Racing - 14:02.973 DNF - Pete Spalding - Yamaha - Linxcel / Seton Tuning - 11:54.393 DNF - Ian Hutchinson - Yamaha - AIM Racing - 8:14.095 DNF - Paul Young - Triumph - MAP Embassy Racing - 1:14.298 DNF - James Webb - Honda - Padgetts Motorcycles - 1:15.797 DNF - Alistair Fagan - Triumph - JHS Racing DNF - Ben Handley - Honda - AZ1 Racing DNF - Rob Hoyles - Yamaha - www.RobHoyles.com Championship Points 1 - Glen Richards - 105 2 - Steve Brogan - 75 3 - Hudson Kennaugh - 71 4 - Ian Lowry - 63 5 - Chris Martin - 48 6 - J Westmoreland - 41 7 - Craig Fitzpatrick - 31 8 - BJ Toal - 31 9 - Marty Nutt - 25 10 - Steve Plater - 25
