The all-new interactive International Motorcycle & Scooter Show in Association with The Sun hosted an array of UK and International motorcycle launches today, the highlight being those of BMW. Ducati and British manufacturers CCM and Royal Enfield. BMW staged the World Premiere of its new R1200GS Adventure model with the aid of show ambassador Charley Boorman – who is soon to be competing in the world renowned Dakar rally. BMW Vice-President Pieter de-Wall oversaw the unveiling of the new model, underlining its strengths including 70% more torque, 25kg lighter and with a fuel capacity that enables it to run for up to 450 miles. Charley Boorman, who unveiled the bike, said that it is “just fabulous and looks gorgeous”. Later on in the day, leading manufacturer Ducati launched two new models to the assembled media. The 999R Xerox replica will be built to order only from November, making it one of Ducati’s most exclusive models while the new STBS will retail at around £8495. Two other welcome additions to the Press Day schedule saw British manufacturers CCM and Royal Enfield also stage World Premieres with CCM unveiling its FT35 and R35 models by former riders Nick Jefferies and Neil MacKenzie, and Royal Enfield unveiling the all new Bullet Electra Sportsman. New bikes were in abundance at the NEC this year, and in addition to the six World launches, Triumph, Suzuki, Honda and Kawasaki all unveiled new bikes to the UK audience for the first time. Many of the assembled media were delighted to have the first try on several of the many interactive features on offer to visitors this year. All of the fifty-two bikes available to try on the roads around the NEC on the ‘Bike Ride Out’ feature were ridden, as well as many of the ‘Off Road’ bikes on the course through the woods of the NEC. Also in full swing was the ‘Try a Yamaha Supermoto’ feature, and the ‘My First Honda Licence’ for those as young as five years old, and ‘Mini Moto Racing’. The show opens to the public tomorrow (28th October) with its Preview Day and runs until 6th November.
