WHEN BRITAIN RULED
The 1989
Motocross 500cc World Championship released on DVD
The mouth-watering
prospect of a stellar line-up of world champions and
hard-charging challengers promised a vintage year of
motocross as the 1989 season opened.
Britain’s own former
World Champion Dave Thorpe, reigning 500cc World
Champion Eric Geboers, former title-holder Georges Jobe,
plus rising stars Kurt Nicoll and Jeff Leisk, were ready
for what promised to be a truly unforgettable year of MX
action.
Now, for the first time
on DVD, re-live this amazing season in awesome footage
of the best in the world, doing what they do best.
Featuring all the mud-spitting, high-jumping,
bike-smashing moments of a dramatic year of motocross,
this is the ultimate record of a titanic championship
battle.
Share the heartbreak of
Australian Leisk who, in his first full 500cc season,
could have started the year with victory in both races
in Holland, only to be cruelly robbed of victory by a
fuel problem.
Watch in awe as old-hands
Geboers and Thorpe quickly take control of the
championship chase, dominating the rain-soaked French
round and sun-baked races in Italy. With a third of the
season done, the pair were tied at the top of the table.
But the drama doesn’t
stop there! In the middle of the season Kees van der Ven
found his form and forced his way into title contention,
just tailing fellow championship hopefuls Nicoll, of
Britain, and Leisk.
With the end in sight,
Brit hero Thorpe trailed his illustrious rival – but he
refused to admit defeat and exploited a dip in form from
the Belgian to snatch win after win.
Thorpe’s double victory
on home ground is just one highlight you’ll want to
watch again and again.
This DVD brings viewers
the whole story of a truly dramatic season, which
culminated in an unforgettable showdown in Luxembourg
where Thorpe demonstrated the skills that made him a
multi-world champion.
This is an incredible
tail of a real comeback kid, showing Thorpe roaring to a
third world title after two disastrous years ruined by
injury.
This review is a real
celebration of a true British hero.
